I installed Linux-makdrake 7.2 on my system. But now when I go to "GET INTO LINUX" it comes the this console screen that says login. After I login i get absolutly nothing. It seems I am doing something wrong.
By the way I am a new-be.

Little more info please. What install did you do, standard? Expert? Did you install X and KDE or Gnome? On hint, when I installed 7.2 on my machine I had the video resolution set wrong but the install completed fine anyhow. But when I went to log in it gave me a generic login not the KDE Graphical Login and only took me to the command line. Only when I got the video resolution right at setup did it load right.
After logging in....... type..... startx
That should do it.

Rod

When I type in STARTX it gives me an error message "xfree86". I am not sure what I should try.

I am not familiar with lnx4win. It sounds as if your configuration for X is hosed up. Things you should know:
Monitor horizontal and vertical sync rates.
Video card resolutions and driver needed. Not sure what driver TNT2 uses. The svga will probably work. You can always change this later.
Your mouse type.
Log in as root and run XF86Setup for a graphical configuration or xf86config for text based.
Good luck and post errors if you get them.

Rod

I typed in the last command that you told me to and nothing happened. It said command not in list.
I tried to use Harddrake but the config program doesn't edit the video boards.
Your help would be good.
Make sure you are root and the commands are case sensitive.

Rod

XFS (X Font Server) is most likely screwed up. The fix I found that works is to manually set up my fonts in the XF86Config file. If I remember, I will try to post my XF86Config file.

A quick way to fix the problem (though not the correct) is to comment out the offending font line in /etc/XF86Config.
ie
# FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc"
Edit /etc/XF86Config, comment out the correct FontPath line and restart X.
