loading spec packet failed...

OK, I was just getting into linux. I decided to try Knoppix and got this error message as I try to boot from CD:

Loading spec packet failed.....Trying to wing it

cannot locate CD-rom device

I origionally thought I burned the CD wrong. Oh well, I have some mandrake 10 CD's as well. hmm...Those give the same error. For some reason I can't load ANY linux live cd or installer that uses ISOlinux!

did you use the md5 checksum tool to make sure it was downloaded correctly?

well, I used A md5 checksum utility. It says everything is ok.

EDIT: The CD boots OK on my other comp. It doesn't work on an old gateway 2000 200mhz with 64 megs of ram. I have the latest bios updates and all.
