How do i run programs/commands when I start linux?
Actually...should I be asking "How do i run programs/commands when I start GNOME?"...considering the thing I want to start up automatically is GAIM.

If you want to do it the GUI way instead of the text based way (if you're more comftorable in the GUI that is), then open up the Gnome controll pannel. All the way at the bottom of the menu tree on the left hand side should be a session choice. If its not already expanded, expand it. Then click the first option. It should say somthing about startup programs.
Up at the top of the window, click the Startup programs tab.

You could also start the application and then click on the button in the menu bar. You should get a drop down menu with the choice called Remember. Click on it and you can select options like start program when Gnome starts or you can make it sticky or lots of other options.

From my understand if your trying to start anything at start shouldn't you put it in your
