I was waiting to upgrade my FC2 to FC4, since I never got around to upgrading to FC3. However, now all I'm seeing is that the install process keeps freezing up on everyone and if they do get it installed, it isn't working as well as they thought it would.
I usually do an install from scratch, prolly cause I'm a sick bastard, and its takes a lot less time to install everything than upgrade everything.
So what's this post about? Tell me/everyone your horror stories or "everything worked out fine" stories.

I´ve found it to be rather buggy if you will. Install was easy but grub didnt want to install, after trying everything , even a reinstall I had to go online for a solution. (--recheck did the trick)
Gnome seems to have a few glitches, for example when you click on any of the menu items on the top bar it will take about 10secs of hard disk activity before the menu will even pop up. Try adding a bottom osx-like panel, reboot and it will not work.
FC3 was nice, stable and all , FC4 is quicker (boots really fast) but bugs are everywhere... im gunna stick to it cuase i lost my FC3 install cd's ... and besides i finally got my sb live! 24-bit to work in full 7.1 surround mode !!! yay for alsa .. lol
k thats all my rant for today! :p

Well then. Still haven't heard or seen a nice thing to say about FC4. :( Guess I'll just upgrade to FC3 and see what happens on FC5. They do seem to be putting these out faster than when it was the free version of RH, or my memory sucks.

I installed FC4 yesterday and the installation went without problems. Grub installed without issues. It seems to boot a lot quicker than FC3 and I havent experienced the 10second delay when clicking on the menu. I havent really had time to use it much so Im not yet aware of any serious bugs but from what I have seen so far, maybe 1 hour of use total, I havent experienced any issues with it. Ill probably post later on when/if something comes up.

I did an UPgrade from FC3 to FC4. The actual upgrade went as smooth as silk, although, several things failed after the reboot. XMMS, of course, has no mp3 plugin, easily fixed by falling back a version, my nvidia card had to have a new driver, for the new kernel, but, by default, FC4 has selinux set enforced. This won't work, have to do setenforce 0. Actually, I don't want that at all, so in /etc/sysconfig I turned all of that off. Also, there's no wine, and it screwed up the one I had, so I had to start over with that. I immediately removed the upper panel, I just didn't like it, so I have no experience with that. Overall, not bad, not bad, and yes, it boots quicker, and it seems to me, X starts more quickly.

Eclipse seems to be buggy for me. The couple of times I tried using it it kept crashing on me. Didnt have time to look into the problem yet though.

I had problems with it (fc4) crashing at the beggining of the install. I ended up typing:
linux resolution=1024x760 nofb at the boot propmt,
and it then installed fine, and I haven't had any real problems to speak of with it (fc4).

I've had trouble with FC4_x64 (havn't tried the regualr version yet) with a number of Problems. Frist off, When ever i try to load it, it always dies mid disk 3 saying it can't read it and won't let me just skip the disk. I've tried redownloading ithe iso 3 times so far, but it doesn't help. and this is starting to eat in to my supple of CDR's.
Next it refueses to talk to my NTFS partition. And since i can't get though an install to toy with it...
It also messed up my win98 partition. i had to redo it once already, but it just messed it up on the next install.
So I don't know. maybe if i could just get a set of good disks to install from...

Is it just me or does the "update applet", the little icon that supposed to show you when there are updates available, not work properly. It says that there are no updates but if I run yum update, it installs updates so obviously they are available. Is this just me??

well, since I started the thread, I guess I'll install sometime today and post how it goes. it doesn't seem to be too bad, just a few little bugs here and there. let you all know how it goes.

Well, I had enough time yesterday to install everything, but that's about as far as I got. So far I haven't seen any problems. The install went as well as the last 5+ times I've installed RH/FC distros, so I guess I'll just have to wait until I get to actually play around with a few things.

The icon only notifies you of new updates for the RH server line, with a subscription. In Fedora is only checks for updates if you click on it.

The thing is that in FC3 it would let you know of updates automatically. The blue check mark would change to a red exclamation mark whenever there were updates available. I took a look at the fedora bug reports and it seems like quite a few people reported this as a bug. I see it as a bug too. Even a security bug if you think about it since a lot of people might rely on the icon to let them know when updates are available.

It worked for me, in FC3, as well. I have seen the bug-track stuff, but I suspect it has been abandonded. FC4 does not support RHNSD.
I actually wonder, if you "rpm -e up2date" and reload up2date from and FC3 repository, will it now work??
I have noticed a strange phenonema, somtimes new FC4 updates lag old FC3 updates, by version number.

Still going great, it's noticing my onboard RAID card right away, which I haven't seen another do yet. Now to get the dual heads up and running.
