Hello, I have been trying Opera 8 and it works well so far where IE is required. I am a HP Printer Technician and HP requires that you use IE 6. I have been looking for something to replace IE because it is an insecure program.
How is the security for Opera 8? No bugs found yet. It is still in beta tho. :)
Thx,
William
Why don't you just use Firefox? It's much, much better than Opera.

Because firefox will not fake like it is IE.
Maybe not as well as Opera 8.
I have tried all browsers.
I have not tried Firefox 1.04 tho. :D

Because firefox will not fake like it is IE.
I believe that there is a plugin that will allow you to do it.

Nice, thanks. I knew konqueror had something like that, but i didn't know they had something like that for firefox.
Haha, well.. it looks that you can do that with the link that cybertron posted so.. you can't complain :)

That plugin does not work for HP Channel Services Network website.
I just wanted an answer to the question of "how is the security of Opera 8"?
Wait, I typed to soon. I forgot to set the setting in the agent switcher. Sorry.
Also, Some of the functions are not working. Like when I select Printers and Scanners in the first drop down window. The second drop down window is suppose to give me the different models and it does not. Oh Well, it was worth a try anyway.
Thx for your help.

It is surprising with HP getting so involved with linux that their channel services website only uses IE... but I guess the majority of people still do use IE.
I don't really know much about opera..

Well, opera is nice, but not free. zealots don't like it. Me too.
But the ads are very very irritating if you don't get a license.....
Its security settings are as wise as firefox, IMO....
Reasons why I hate Opera are because it's ugly, and it doesn't respect web standards.

that is a shame because Opera is coded so well. I have it installed, but I am more of a Firefox man.

Does anyone use Opera 8 and can confirm this: on all vBulletin sites, including justlinux, the font used for posts in threads is displayed too large. This was fine in version 7, but is messed up in v8, and there's no way of fixing it by changing the font settings in Preferences.

I like opera's tab'd browsing power MUCH better than Firefox's attempt at such things.
I have been using Opera for years now, much longer than firefox has been out.
I have never even noticed the ad's which are in the toolbar at the top...i don't even know what they sell up there, so that isn't an issue for me at all.
I had issues at times, especially on MS site. Also, stupid stupid CVS.com wont even display their front page without IE!
There are a few times when Opera doesn't cut it, like some flash plugins or something, where firefox wins out, but I keep falling back to Opera for the tabbed'ness of it.
I have no issues with fonts. I am on Opera 8.0
v8 of Opera does seem a little more annoying than previous versions.

I have been using Opera for a couple of years now. I really like how Opera performs. On my system (p-III 667 and 256 megs RAM) Opera is faster than Firefox. I also use Firefox quite a bit, it is a great browser.
As far as the banner adds they are not very obtrusive. I liked Opera so much I paid for a license, back when 7.0 came out and it still works for 8.0.
AFAIK Opera is very secure when compaired to IE. Im not sure how it compaired to Firefox.

I have found a couple of gliches with Opera 8.01, first is if you leave it opened to long it locks up and will not go anywhere on the web. Time on leaving it opened is one day so far. I have not got it down to the hours yet. Second thing is I just tried to log in to and Exchange server and it would not display the page correctly. So I did it with Firefox and it displayed the page correctly.
Other than that it is great. I have been using it at work for my IE Only sites.
William.

Can anyone figure out why the fonts display wrong in Opera 8 (they're simply too big) but right in Firefox and Opera 7?
