I have OpenOffice 1.1.0 installed on my SuSE 9.0 Linux. I'm using the KDE 3.1 desktop environment. I've noticed that when I try to open a saved document from home I actualy get the markup language version rather than the doc from OpenOffice. Is this behavior normal? I would like to be able to access the doc from home. Thanks.

you save a doc (what extension?) in /home/yourname and then try to open it again with OO.o and you dont get nice text? you get the xml (or whatever) that it's _actually_ saved as?

Are you sure that OpenOffice.org is actually the program trying to open it? Because if your built in text editor on konqueror opens it you will see the raw code...

Yes that's what I'm seeing. How do I tell Konqueror to open the document with OpenOffice? I try to select OpenOffice from the "open with" feature on the context menu but it will only open the document once even though I've selected "alway associate with this program". I have to do this everytime. Thanks for your replies.

Go to the control Centre of KDE, select KDE components, go to file associations, and then search for the openoffice extensions, remove all other Apps, except openoffice from the list of open with applications and you're done.

leonpmu, I followed your directions and found that OpenOffice was not on the list under file associations. I added it there. Still the the documents won't open on a click, but Open Office is the first entry on the "open with" list. All I have to do now is right click a document>select openoffice from the "open with" list and I'm there. It's working so I think I'll leave it at that. Thanks for your help.

nuttron, tried your suggestion-made no difference. I guess I'm stuck with going the "open with" route every time. Thanks anyway. :)
