Can't access shares on Linux machine from XP

The machine shows up in Network Neighborhood but when I click on it it says "\\Home is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

how do I set-up users for Samba to get around this?

Assuming you have a user on the Linux box (username luser), do

smbpasswd luser

and enter the password twice. Then, your XP username and password need to match.
