#1. This OS is the most problematic OS i've ever used. It's not user friendly and it's a hassle to install.

#2. It can't reconize ulta ATA promise controllers when i tried to install it. I'm not going to edit the kernel to make it do so, i think this should be done already.

This OS is incomplete. Please, someone email me when Red Hat or someone else actually releases something worth installing. I'm not impressed with what i've seen.

Ohhhhh, bad subject line. Well, if you want linux for a purpose, it adds a whole new dimension to things. I am a super newbie, I have had a lot of setup problems, but linux isn't going to get better with people not using it. I guess you get what you pay for, hehe.

think your a newbie? today is the first time i have ever seen linux other than a few web based screen shots. i have never used unix or linux. i got SuSE 7.1 becuase some guy on a message board like this one said it was his favorite and found out that i cant simply "shrink" my partition but instead have to use a cute little super hard/scarey for a newbie program called FIPS or spend about 25.00 to 70.00 on "partition magic" ive decided to be bold/cheap and give the free one a try. this is the whole reason i wanted linux. "to learn" and guess what! if you dont pay you dont play! woohoo! Im sticking around! :D im going a step further and getting myself an additional hardrive so i can keep on pluggin without breaking any "windows" :D after reinstalling windows about 5 times while one trys new things it makes spending a few bucks on a new hardrive a little bit eaiser!

Linux Sucks

Then don't use it. Simple.

great now you have an opinion, but do you want to know something???? opinions are not facts, and just because you have one does not make it a right.

I lay down a challenge to you. Name anything, I and will give you an opinion on why it sucks, and why it is great. The worse part is, if viewed from the right perspective, they both could be construed as right. you say its not user friendly, but i say it is. Who is right? who cares. not me. My point is, it may not be geddy friendly, no big deal. You probably have a food that you do not like at all, and what do you do if it is served in a restaurant? You don't order it, you dont stand up and tell the whole restaurant you do not like it. The same applie with operating systems, try it once, if its not for you at all, dont use it and get on with your life.

ps. by the way, if you are here just to troll and pss people off, you really need to examine what you are doing. I mean really, does your life revolve around pissing people off online that you dont know and never will know? I would recommend doing someething at leeast somewhat useful with your life instead.

Well, linux is not for everybody. ;)
And nobody said it was easy. It's all part of the learning journey. Something is not working, we try to fix it and we learn something.

I had friends who tried linux and eventually uninstalled it. I stuck with it and enjoy learning. I'm a newbie and I'm slow but hey.. it's fun!

No need to post something like this here. If you are unhappy, then uninstall it and wait til some vendor comes up with something better. Keep a watch here for news of a more newbie friendly distribution.

BTW, I guess nobody's gonna help you with your promise controllers in this post. Everyone's just a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Try posting it in the hardware section if you still want learn about getting it to work.

See ya around.. I hope :)

I don't feel you are a retard because you can't figure out something on linux.

I think you are a retard to ask for help in a post with the heading "linux sucks"

lol.

Yes it does suck if you don't know what the hell your doing. Did anyone ever tell you that Unix was easy? Did you do ANY research on Linux/Unix at all before deciding to try out a complex os as it is? Bet you didn't.

Your just one of those spoiled brats that just has to have everything. Little Billy has it so I want it too. Stick with Windows until you are old enough to understand amd work with a complex operating system.

I have the Promise ATA100 controller and a simple one line command is all I needed to get eDesktop 2.4 up and running. Did you spend any time reading the hundreds of posts on the ATA66/100 and the simple solution to getting it to work? Does Win9x, ME, NT and 2000 have native support for Promise controllers? No they don't.
