Hi folks,

Peachtree and MYOB are proprietary sccounting soflware. Is there equivalent from Open Source?

Which search engine will be effective for their search other than Sourceforge and Freshmeat.

TIA

PeachTree is used where I work, though I've never heard of MYOB (Mind Your Own Business? heh). I once brought in my slackware 10.1 laptop with wine and cedega to try and get peach tree to work on it. I got it to get through the install screen, but I never had much luck with it. However, I didn't fiddle with it too much, but my point is this: if you fiddle around with it enough, I'm sure you could get peachtree to work under wine.

if you're also looking for a program for document/spreadsheet/presentation/whatever then you'll probably want to use OpenOffice. It's compatible with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and others. it is in my opinion superior to any other office suite I've used, including KOffice--but like I said, only my opinion. check it out!

also, if you're a slackware user, www.linuxpackages.com is a GREAT site for packages.

Hmm, looking at what systems/software peachtree integrates with I don't think you will be able to find and equivalent in the OSS world.

However, I use GNUCash for my private accounting and I'm very happy with it, it beats many commercial home accounting programs.

Hi Parcival,

Tks for your advice.

Before I made a search on Sourceforge and found "Web Order Transporter"
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ordertransport/

A small business e-commerce product written in REALBasic 3.0 and Visual Basic that produces an import file for Accounting Systems like Quickbooks, Peachtree, and MYOB. But they are on planning stage.

Hi zeroth,

Tks for your advice.

if you fiddle around with it enough, I'm sure you could get peachtree to work under wineEven if I can get it running on Linux still I have to pay. It is a proprietory software. I'm now searching for its equivalent on Open Source.

also, if you're a slackware user, www.linuxpackages.com is a GREAT site for packages. The said site is not working. Is it http://www.linuxpackages.net ?

TIA
