I'm using a redhat 7.2 system, and the runlevel has been set to 5 via Xconfigurator. When the system boots up, it dosen't try to load X, it just gives me a console login. Does anyone have any suggestions about what might be happening here? X works fine when started with 'startx', though.

Look in /etc/inittab file and make sure there is a line like this:
id:5:initdefault:

"id:5:initdefault:" was there. I was already sure that it was set to five anyway because when it booted it said "entering runlevel 5."
Change the 5 to a 2 or a 4. You must have read that wrong slapNUT.
