Hey everyone. Just curious if anyone has any trouble printing with RedHat 7.2. I have a canon 620 and fresh after the install it didn't print. I didn't get an error but nothing came out. I installed the newest kernel and enabled printer and printer port support. Now I get an error right away and still can't print. Any one else having trouble, if not any suggestions?? Thanks!

Which printing system are you using? CUPS/apsfilter? Try doing an lpq -a to show you which jobs are active. Also, what is the error you are getting?

This is a local printer dev/lp0 I am just trying to use the printer wizard it goes through all the steps but it errors out when trying to print. The parallel port and printer support is enabled in the kernel. It's using LPD services

Errors out? If you are getting a error message, then post it here as Pras suggested. Hard to tell the problem without a little help.

If not, then try Google or www.linuxprinting.org (http://www.linuxprinting.org)

Red Hat 7.2 has printing issues. Check the Red Hat errata, they have some new ghostscript and other print RPM's to fix the problem. I had the same poroblem with my Epson 860.

Could be a few things. I don't know about 7.2 but on 6.1 that I was using you had to go to the errata on redhat and get the fix for printer detection before it would work.
If it did detect the printer and it still doesn't work, it could be an incorrect printer driver (for example if you had to try a different canon model listed if your actual model wasn't there) or, many, many of the newer Canon printers are "winblowz" printers, and will not print from DOS or from the linux CLI.
My BJC1010 was like this, I was able to get it to print from XF86 though.

Theres is no problem with printer detection on RH 7.2, the printing just doesn't work for certain printers with certain drivers. Go to the errata and find the prntconfig one, it has several binary RPM's to fix the problem. I thinj HP's are okay from what I've read.
