Is there a linux port for the AS400?

Might grab this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64029&item=5773312216&rd=1) if there is.

Its at $50 as of the time of this post with only 6 hrs left.

:D

Note: Just curious. I really know very little about non-x86 systems. Is an As400 considered an Alpha?

Pretty sure there is an AS/400 port for linux... probably debian would be your best bet.

AS/400 is supported by the kernel....

Debian would prolly have a port for it.

I believe (though I am not sure) that the AS/400 may have been the reason for the bugs in gcc 2.96 in Red Hat 7.x.

They changed the core of gcc to make sure bash compiled for some architecture or other, and I think the architecture was the AS/400's, though I don't remember for sure. This introduced a bunch of bugs in the x86 code (or maybe it was just incompatibilities with other people's inline assembly?), and a bunch of people started saying "gcc 2.96 is evil!"

Some of the issues were fixed with RH 8, but I don't know if they all were. Eventually everyone moved on, to gcc 3, and it just sort of went away. ;)

But anyway, if the architecture in question was the AS/400, then yes, Linux would work on it. :)
