I have RedHat9 which was installed with GUI installation.
I recently tried to load, but received the following lines:
mkrootdev: label/not found
mounting root file system
mount: error 2 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd)failed: 2
umount /initrd/proc failed:2
Freeing unused Kernel memory: 132k freed
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init =option to kernel
This is installed on a second hard drive with XP on the first. Up to now, no problems with this.
I used Partition Magic recently to attempt installation of Ubuntu on the master drive (with XP). I'm not yet successful with that, but have discovered what the problem may be.
After doing this I received a hard disk error message at boot. My first diagnostic indicated there might be spin-up problem, but my second full diagnostic indicated no problems.
I tried entering commands at the boot: prompt in text mode but was told I only had two options: "DOS Linux".
I'm really new at all this and haven't attempted an install in text mode, so any help is appreciated.
