I'm generally against Redhat (I prefer Slackware) but since it is just for a server I figure it will be better than Mandrake 8.0, my current server software.
I just need to know...
1. Will it automatically setup 2 NICs?
2. Will it automatically setup Internet-sharing if I need it to?
3. Is 7.2 all that bad? (on a 400mhz k6-2 with 64mb of ram)
Thanks

I can answer #3 for you at least.
If you're sticking with the console, it'll work fine.
It'll work in X too, but you may want a lightweight window manager like Blackbox though.

It should automatically detect the two NICS, setup will have to be done through linuxconf (which I don't think is installed by default, with netcfg, or editing the config files yourself.

This will require compiling a new kerel to enable ipmasq, unless the ipmasq modules are included in the default kernel, not sure...

I ran 7.1 on my Celeron 400 with 64 MB a few months ago, worked pretty damn well, X and all.
Have a look at http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/Home-Network-mini-HOWTO.html
They use RH 6 instead of 7.2 but I think the config files and what not are still the same.
Good luck

actually I'm not even sure why I asked that question. I already know, since I happen to run Blackbox on a p100 w/ 64mb of ram.. not very well, but good enough for gaim and a lynx window :)

So are you setting up your machine as a gateway with 2 NICs and will be using IPmasq? I've had this running for a while and had no problems detecting my 2 NICs. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Here's is a link I got most of my info from
linux gateway (http://www.dysan.net/linux/howto/@home-cable-linux-connection-HOWTO.html)

you can download gShield for your firewall/routing needs. it works perfectly for me with very little configuration. i just had to set which nic was local and which was the cable modem. Also remember to setup the network ip masq. its 192.168.1.0/24 by default.
yes. it will setup your 2 nics.
dunno about the performance issue though.
