At my home I have 2 computers networked. One is running Windows 98, and the other which is mine runs both windows 98 and Mandrake 8. In windows the networking things are working fine.

What I am tryin to do is get access t othe printer from linux on my computer. The printer is attached to the other PC. I was wondering if linux would be ableto see a windows printer and if so how

Yes Linux can do file and print sharing with Windows. Do some research on Samba. Here is some links to get you started:

Install SAMBA from the /Mandrake/RPM directory on the CD. Then, edit your /etc/smb.conf file to match your needs - take note of the printers section, and to save time, your access section, and even specify the workgroup name(even if it is just WORKGROUP).

/etc/rc.d/init.d/./smb start

Next fire up printtool, and make a local printer. Then:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/./smb restart

Reboot the Windows machine and browse the network, you should see the linux box and the printer underneath it. Install the drivers on the Windows machine and just leave it as a local printer to start. Next, goto the properties of the printer, "details", "add port" and browse to it.
