I'm running a dual-boot XP (1st HD) and Slackware (2nd) system. As a newbie will do I started meesin with lilo and hosed it a little. What I used to have was a menu showing Slackware and Windows at boot. I ran liloconfig and rebooted and it presented me with:
OS2 (wtf)
Linux
DOS

Now I tried Linux and it no longer could boot. I had to boot from my cd to get into Linux. Windows worked fine (DOS). What I want to do is:
1. Make Linux boot from lilo
2. Customize what it says in lilo menu, e.g. name Linux whatever I want.
3. Remove that strange OS2

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh even though I'm logged in as root, in the /etc file typing ./lilo.conf says permission denied.

Can you post your lilo.conf file? Also the way your drive is partitioned would be helpful. BTW, './lilo.conf' does nothing. You have to use the command 'lilo' to get the system to re-read and install the lilo.conf file.

What you'll probably need to do is edit some of the parameters in /etc/lilo.conf,, but as bdl suggested, post its contents here before you do.

/sbin/lilo

That should install on the MBR... very easy to edit those lilo entries... vi /etc/lilo.conf

Save file

Then run /sbin/lilo
