Hi all,

Here's another newbie question for all of you.

Finally I have decided to use RedHat Linux instead of the others distribution only to find that I run into another question.

Since I am a newbie, (absolutely no experience in Linux), I am thinking that may be 7.2 is more suitable for me. However, I am thinking about installing Apache at the same time, as I am in the web industry. So, my questions is: does 7.2 support Apache? Or do I need Professional.

I realise that both could be downloaded for free, but it seems that Professional is more difficult to handle.

Thanks in advance

As far as I know redhat 7.2 will support Apache, in fact I think any somewhat new version of redhat will via 7.1 etc..
I THINK...

I could be wrong

yes, apache can be installed when you install rh 7.2

apache can be installed with almost any distribution put out in the last few years, it is a standard, although there are other web server for linux

I don't think Professional is any different than any other Redhat (standard etc...). The only difference is the support they give you. Standard may only come with email support while Prof may have email and phone support. Something like that.

Just get the iso's from linuxiso.org...

If you have to buy, the generic version will suffice.

After you install, do this

/etc/init.d/httpd start

That'll get the server running....

RH7.2 has been very good to me (apache is easy as spit to setup) the only problem I have had is in Gnome...the panel crashes on me and I have to delete the .gnome directory in my home and reboot (or restart X) to fix it. Other then that, RH7.2 is very good...

...also be sure to subscribe to the RedHat Network to take full advantage of them (this will allow for automatic updates and alerts) very useful for keeping the system up-to-date :)

I also use RedHat 7.2, but I use KDE instead of Gnome. I have very few crashes, and think the distro would be great if they just had a better means of solving dependencies!

I would recommend RedHat 7.2
