CMonster 05-02-2001, 05:12 PM There is quite an assortment of drivers in CUPS - I think there might be at least one color model? If your printer is not listed perhaps one of the other drivers would work with it anyway. I am using an HP4050N at work (b/w) but there is in the print properties box (at least in GIMP) an option to *color or *b/w. What printer are you using? I am seriously considering a color laser but I must know it will work with Linux. bubba 05-03-2001, 10:25 AM Figured it out... I just copied the PPD for it from a Windows machine to the /usr/share/cups/model/hp directory on the linux box. Then I could pick it from the list. ille_pugil42 05-03-2001, 11:18 AM afaik, a b/w lj driver won't help a color lj printer. B/w lj technology doesn't work the same way. B/W does 1 charge on the drum and 1 pass of toner. With color it does 3 or 4. Totally different process at that point, so I don't think a B/W driver will work for a color Lj. Good idea, tho. bubba 05-03-2001, 11:22 AM Just to be clear, using the proper PPD for the printer (HP Color LaserJet 4500) from a Windows box inserted into the proper directory (/usr/share/cups/model/hp/) allows me to print in color using CUPS. justlinux.com
