I just "put to work" a Socket 3 motherboard, with a AMD 486 DX4 100 Mhz, 8 mb ram, a crappy 88' video card -olivetti, made in italy ,ha- , and the hard drive is pretty big ( 15 Gb's ) . ok hmmmm, i want to install linux on it, but i don't know wich distribution, i really want to do a "lightweight" installation or something. i don't know.
well yes.

I'm just wondering if you'll even be able to use that big HDD on there....

I'd be looking for something really light if I only had 8 megs of ram. Mandrake is probably a bad choice.

you can't even put a 15 gig drive on that old of a motherboard.

The hard drive works ok, i already tried it with tomsrbtb ( or something like that the 1 disk linux distro ) , and the hard drive works perfectly, still is the only "extra " i have. i might install red hat 6 or something,
and yes, i "know my way around" in linux.

Mandrake would be a bad choice - the installer and RPMS are all compiled for a Pentium, unless you get a 'special' edition, and it complained when I tried to install it with 48MB RAM. From what I hear, Peanut might be worth a look, though I haven't tried it myself.
I'd be inclined to start with an old version of any distro and build from there.

I think you should try caldera openlinux... sure you going to have to update it a bit... but its easy to get a small gui like blackbox going and the initial install doesn't require a lot of space...
