Then try to solve this problem, PLEASE! :D

Okay, I have a Promise ATA100 Adapter Card and I recently have wanted to try and run Red Hat 7.0. I was previously using Mandrake 7.2 before, but due problems, I felt Rhat would be nice.

So when I ran the installer, it said I had no hard disks. Impossible I thought, I have three on my ATA 100 adapter card! I then tried to hook the hard drive that I wanted to install linux on into the motherboard. Low and behold, it worked.

Although, I noticed I couldnt access files on the other FAT32 partitions like I could on Mandrake, also, I noticed LILO took over my other boot manager (I had installed boot magic before-hand because thats what I wanted to use as the boot manager) and I couldnt select Windows 98 from the boot list! Only linux! So I unplug the Linux HD from the Mobo and plug it into the adapter card, and I was able to boot into Windows via Bootmagic, although there was no option to select Linux.

So can ANYONE please help me? How can I configure R-Hat 7.0 to accept my card and recognize the hard drives on the Adapter card?

Thanks.

Fandango.

ATA100 adapters have a history of not being supported early-on.

If I'm not mistaken you'll need to: patch the kernel, or pass a parameter to LILO, or boot as ATA33 (if that's possible).

Oh,...and RH7.0 was buggy AS HELL when it came out.
I'd recommend SuSE for starters.

Do a search on the forum for ATA100. Also did you look at the NHF's? Who needs to be a guru when all you have to do is a little research :D

I am pretty sure that someone posted on "How I Dit It" forum about how to setup a Promise ATA100 or ATA66 card. I don't properly recall how to do it but i know you look at proc/pci and need the IO numbers for the card and then you pass them as arguments to lilo at boot up or in lilo.conf.
