Hello All

This is my first outing on this board and am so new to linux you would not believe.

Now My problem is that I have installed suse linux 9.1 and am using ndiswrapper to install my wireless network card.
All that works great, I am connecting to a bt wireless router, which I can access via my browser. ip 192.168.1.1
but I am unable to access any internet pages such as google, my other two pc's running winxp both work fine.
I have found out that I may need to set up my connection using kinternet but all the options within the menu are greyed out.

this is where my knowledge of linux runs out of steam completely and where you good people can help.

Thanks in advance
Retro

- what is the ip that your wireless card is getting?

- what is the default gateway the wireless card has?

(ifconfig will give you this information)

- do you by chance have the router set to filter allowed machines by mac address or anything like that?

Assumming ifconfig is run from a command line (xconsole)? I will post the results later tonight.
thanks for the reply.
p.s.
for setting up purpose's the router is setup completely open,no security or filtering.

Wow you like to live on the edge.

I always think of my router as my first line of defense.

So how many times have you had to reinstall XP on those boxes because of this open configuration?

It's only open whilst trying to configure the linux box, normally security is on.
Also where I live it is unlikely that anyone can get into wireless range and both windows box's have there own security. (antivirus/firewalls).

Where do you live? Antarticta? The 100th floor of a building?

This is not just a DNS problem right? E.g. if you try to ping 64.233.161.104 it won't give you anything right?

Good luck

Have not tried that ip, but I can access the configuration page of my router
on 192.168.1.1

forgive my newbie state but what does that ip (64.233.161.104) relate to?
btw I believe my wireless router has a range limited to approx 400ft and I live in the middle of nowhere.

Cheers

Oh, it's an IP I got when pinging google.
What are the internet speeds like in the middle of nowhere?

Good luck
