Well, im officially making the switch from Windows to Linux. I just love Linux and you cant complain abou the penguin mascot either.
Anyways, i'm trying to learn as much as I can and familirize myself with Linux. I feel like i'm making good progress, however, I still have a ton to learn.
My question is, does anyone have any recommendations on links, books, guides, anything that might have a tutorial, howto's anything that can kind of walk me through Linux? I mean, i'd like to have something have me navigate through the file structure, create a file, locate the file, change ownership/permission of the file, etc. etc. Im trying to start from the ground up and work towards the top.
So if anyone has some recommendations, I would be much obliged if you could point me in the right direction.
Thanks everyone. I always appreciate your input.

Check my tagline, also www.linuxlinks.com, (http://www.linuxlinks.com,) www.linuxstart.com, (http://www.linuxstart.com,) linuxtoday.com, and linuxdoc.org. These are my every-time-I-log-on-sites. :)
Also, although not linux devoted, www.theregister.co.uk (http://www.theregister.co.uk) is usually on top of tech news long before most other sites.

Sybex's "Mastering Linux" is a good book, even walks you through stuff like Samba.
Plus, if you have some basic logic and troubleshooting skills, Google is a great resource. I have figured out soooooooo much stuff thanks to Google.
And Ximian is another great way to get a good install upgraded to an even better install. Evolution is a sh*t hot email client (I sucked in three years worth of Outlook emails and now use it exclusively), and I keep finding out great usability features in Nautilus and Galeon every day.
The journey from Windows to Linux is a great one and very rewarding, I hate going into work and logging into an NT box because nothing is where I want it, and I keep saying to myself "I could write a bash script to take care of so much of this stuff" on a regular basis.
Hang in there, it just gets better. Even when it gets frustrating, it's still cool as all get out and much more fun than Windows!
I have "Mastering Linux" also, and it's been a valuable resource (weighs about 20 pounds, though; no small book by any stretch).
The answer one usually gets to your question is "Running Linux" by Matt Welsh, published by O'Reilly press. It's "The" book for newbies, and even though the latest edition (3rd) is getting kind of long in the tooth, it is still an excellent resource.
As far as online docs, you definitely need to bookmark The Linux Documentation Project (http://www.linuxdoc.org).

O'Reilly's Linux in a Nutshell is a good book too... Most reading though I have found is done online at linuxdoc.org or various other linux resources. The best place though for information I have found, is probably Linuxnewbie's forums, which you happen to be at now! heh... good luck with linux... its great

orielly's "running linux", and "linux in a nutshell", are both great guilds on linux, as well as good references. ;)
