It seems that KDE 3.4's compositor isn't playing nice with nvidia's 7174 driver release coupled with kernel 2.6.11 and my Geforce MX 440. Just thought I'd give a heads up. I had to revert to 2.6.10 to get 6629 to compile.
The symptom was an X lockup when you launched kcontrol. You can also solve this by using the nv module.
