i started qtparted for the first time in fedora 3, i selected my second hard disk, and it freezed in 28%. there was no disk activity. i waited, same thing. then i try to close window, and it does not close. i killall qtparted, doesnt work (nothing happens). killall -9 qtparted, nothing. ps aux ; kill -9 <process number>, nothing. it still is running in the process list.
how do i kill and murder it once and for all?
is it zombied? if so then you can't unless the kernel cleans it up its sefl.

I've had this problem as well on a number of occasions...
In X you can do Ctrl+Alt+Esc and then click the window to nuke it. X usually cleans up the mess afterwards quite well... BUT, in the CLI, I've had programs crash and not want to terminate afterwards. I guess this is what you mean by "zombied".
Hayl, can you explain zombification and add how the kernel cleans it up itself? I honestly don't know too much about it (too much work and not enough time to surf the web!).
Thanks,
James
