Just out of curiosity I've seen the conduits out there for downloading info to a Palm but I was wondering, are there only certain applications that they work with?
Does Evolution sync with the Palm? Other PIM programs for Linux? What's the scoop?

Evolution has full Palm support, and, it works just great.

Personally I use JPilot with my Handspring Visor. It is a lot like the app that comes with Pilot and Handspring devices with a few extra features. All you need is the JPilot app, Pilot Link, and read / write access to your USB port (if you use USB). Only took me a couple of minutes to get it all to work and I don't know what the hell I'm doing.
JPilot (http://www.jpilot.org) is available here and they have a link to Pilot Link's site as well. Check out the Handspring Mini-HOWTO at linuxdoc.org.

I agree with the previous post. Jpilot is excellent especially if you're like me and don't want to use a GIGANTIC application like evolution.
Oh yeah, and it is very easy to set up. :)

Me, I use things like rsync, telnet, and X with my PDA, :) for it is an Agenda. I saw you can get them for $120 at www.tigerdirect.com (http://www.tigerdirect.com)

Any data can be written to the Palm without a conduit provided you have an application that is a front end for your data. About a year ago I wrote a VB application that converts Access or SQL Server databases to Palm format and back. It was used with applications that were created with C/C++, Java, and NSBasic.
All a conduit does is go into the backup directory for the Palm and check the new data against the old data. When there is new data the new data is inserted on the next hotsync. Actually it is not inserted the file is overwritten on the Palm unit.
