This morning I walked in and found my linux RH7 machine with an error. It had and error after the login prompt:

name login: hda: irg timeout: status = 0xd0 {Busy} ide0: reset: master: error (0x00?)

What is this? I have never seen this type of error before. Is my hard drive timing out or something. HELPPPPPP!

i get that from time to time too, is your hda an older HD?

do cat /proc/interrupts and check to see if it's sharing an irq or something, though that probably shouldn't matter.

what kernel are you running, there's this option in 2.4 under IDE, ATA, and ATAPI Block devices called "Use multi-mode by default" which may have something to do with it. Fixed it for me at least.
