Please advise how to install 'unicode' fonts and where can I find them. I could not discover them on the "font dropping down list" TIA

Google for how to install fonts in X. If you are running KDE, there is a really neat tool for installing fonts in the KDE configuration menu. Once they got successfully implemented there they are also available in openoffice.

I have a how-to on my web site for installing fonts if you wish to use it. it involves a script i wrote -- which is provided with no waranty, i.e. if it breaks your system or doesn't work then don't blame me :P however -- it works perfectly fine :P i promise.

unicode is not a font, its a way to encode characters
