Ok,

I dumped XP Professional with sp2 and installed Ubuntu 4:10
now I installed it on a Compaq presairo 2210US, this laptop has
the broadcom wireless onboard, with my windows platform my wireless
would not function unless i pressed the buttom on the front of the laptop
and the button would light up. I loooked around in the device manager and found the "BCM94306 802.11G" so I believe we have a winner on the onboard detection, but my button is not working.........
How can I activate my wireless functions without it?

and second question.

in the taskbar it has the wireless strength "no wireless devices"
is this like MAC where its showing signal strength?

and Third,

are there any applications out there like the windows program call
"network stumbler"

thanks for any help and or suggestions

In reverse order:

I assume so

Can you go into your bios and tell it to always turn on the wireless card at boot?

Ok,

For starters, I know that my laptop can see the wireless card, but this laptop by default will not power up the card until the button and light are activated, this is going to be a problem, my volume buttons and wlan button are not functioning like they do in windows, the guy I got it from had windows xp home edition and mandrake on it and I know he could use mandrake with the wireless so I know there is a way around this.

I typed in "iwconfig" becuse i was reading a similar thread and I got this

lo no wireless exstensions.

etho no wireless exstensions.

sito no wireless exstensions.

any suggestions????
