Hi people of the justlinux community, how are you all today.

I'm the one who said he was going to Linux in the installation forum and well, I've installed it (on mine and my sister's laptop), but im internetless (im using a windows box atm) and no clue how to set it up *rolls eyes*

Anyway, I've bought myself a Netgear 108 Mbps Spuer Wireless ADSL Router (ive got my laptop plugged straight into one of the ethernet ports on it) and my sister a Belkin Wireless G Notebook Network Card.

Anyway, my question is how do I ever begin to set it up and how do I get it to connect to AOL *shudders* once I have, sorry about the AOL my dad won't change just yet.

First we need to see if Suse picked up the wireless card in the PCs correctly.

Some of these commands may have to be run as root from the command line

'lsmod' shows the modules you have loaded.

Suse has pretty good hardware detection so I think this shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure of the module that needs to be loaded for your wireless cards. A google/linux search should tell you.

If all the correct modules are loaded then see if you have an IP from the router.

'ifconfig' will show you if your nic is up and has an ip from the router. Should be something in the 192.168.0.* range.

Not being that familiar with ADSL as I run a cable modem I'll hope some one else can fill in the blanks on that for you.

Now AOL does not have a linux client, but I think it will run under wine. Is your ADSL connection through AOL?

Okay, so your laptop is plugged into the router. This is what you should do:

On your laptop, fire up YaST, go to the properties of your network card and make sure DHCP is activated. Also make sure DHCP is activated in your router, refer to its documentation if necessary.

As a second step, connect to your router (probably by means of your webbrowser, refer to your documentation) and set it up to connect with AOL.

If everything works with your laptop and your router, do the first step with your sister's wirelass card and test the internetconnection on hers again.

Well, I tried to do what you said Parcival, but my router just didn't seem to connect it keeps trying to but doesn't, strangest thing though it doesn't say anything in the logs, so I wonder whats going on.

The light just keeps flashing Orange but never goes green, I have a good mind to call up AOL and tell them what I think of them and tell them to get their act together.
