All right, I finally got Debian installed on my computer. Well, sorta...
I could never get Debian correctly installed using the original distro's very painful installer. It seems to me that you have to be a sesoned veteran to get that thing working. Then I read about Progeny and gave it a try. What a difference a well written installer makes! I got it installed for the first try, recognized all my hardware, got it going right away.
I'm just wondering what the real difference is between the current Progeny version (they call it Newton) and Debian 2.2v3 is. Is Debian 2.2v3 any better? I'm very impressed with Progeny so far.
The only thing I haven't figured out is how to enable/disable automatic startup services (such as httpd, ftp, ssh, mysqld, etc.). I need to get swat going.
Does anyone have any experience with installing KDE 2.1.1? I was trying to set up the sources.list file but apt-get always came back with an error message.
Other than that I really like this distro...

Never even got as far as into the installer. For some reason, it didn't like my video card. :( (SIS6326)
As far as startup services, you should be able to set them up within linuxconf.

I've installed Progeny on a few computers, but though its installer is nice, it does need a lot more documentation. When trying to use a Microsoft compatible mouse it would hang up. Had no problems with video, but oh well. It did not recognize a Genius NetScroll Mouse, had to edit the XFConfig file.
All in all, its fast, but you have to have a computer that will accept a full install and then modify the appropiate modules for it to work on other cpus.
I find it a distant second to Corel.

A distant second to Corel? Well to each his own, but you sir have a very unusual own!
2.2v3 vs 2.2v2:
2.2v2 (Potato) is the current stable distribution. If all your sources.list point to stable, then you should be alright. However, if there's anything in there that points to testing or unstable, you might run into dependency issues. For example, I run 2.2v2 and will run an apt-get dist-upgrade at first chance to get 2.2v3. My sources.list points to all the testing stuff, and some of it is "held back" during an apt-get upgrade due to the fact that I'm not running the official testing version. It's a matter of choice...do you want something newer and more cutting edge, or older and more stable and tried and tested?
KDE 2.x.x:
Do you have Craig's sources.list file? I believe that there's a link to it off of the Apt NHF. AFAIK, it contains the KDE servers you'll need to apt-get KDE 2.x.x. What are the exact errors you get when you try to apt-get it? It might have something to do with the fact that you're running the stable distribution, and AFAIK that version of KDE is testing (not sure on this...I'm a Gnome man myself so I don't really follow KDE).

Well, to set things straight...
Progeny is based on Debian "woody"... Debian 2.2r3 is not. It's an updated "potato".
When I first tried Progeny (beta2) the installer did not recognize my Sis6326 but they said it would be fixed in future releases. (Did you, drakster, try the most recent official release? And that's still broken?? Sheesh!)
Instead, I installed Debian 2.2 and followed progeny's instructions on how to use apt to "upgrade" (we'll see ;) ) to progeny and it worked just fine.
And overall I like Progeny, but going about it that way is kinda pointless as Progeny has added little (some, but not much) to pure Debian.
Not bad but still a far cry from Storm (I've heard good things about Libranet, but I haven't tried it yet) and WAY nicer than that POS Corel.
