Ok, I've been using my computer for about 4 hours now, and I just noticed that the power light is blinking steadily. I've never seen this before.

What is my computer trying to tell me???

I looked through my mb manual but couldn't find anything. the machine seems to be working fine though.

Maybe there is a loose connection between the light and the motherboard.

yeah, the blinking light is much like the REM sleep pattern we humans get perhaps...

Could be a thermal thing. Check your temps.

this can be done through the BIOS (usually press something like the Delete key when you start your computer

*humm*

I have an Asus p5a/b k6-2-500 mobo that does this frequently ... its usually an indicator of an io failure ...
(in my case the io controller doesn't like the floppy drive much, and barfs after writing to the floppy)

Is your system speaker plugged in? if not... it can also be an alarm from the heat monitoring hardware on the mobo

First assuming that you are actually looking at the power indicator led and not the hd led and it is connected properly. If you had just installed a motherboard or it is a new system there may be a short (perhaps the leads in the back are too long and there touching the back of the case). Or if you are actually looking at the hd indicator led and are using linux then It probably some *cron update running. If you just bought the system and you are certain that it is the pwr led that flickering and not the hd led I might return it to the place you bought it. It may pose a very serious problem later.
