I downloaded Hal91 (a floppy/ramdisk distro), and have been using it so much to explore and learn about Linux/Unix that I wanted to use it as a regular hardisk install.I also have a "normal" Redhat Distro The problem is is if I dd the floppy image to a partition and configure lilo to boot it, it simply loads it into RAM and alls lost when I turn off my machine. I tried to dd the /dev/ram0 (with hal91 loaded) to the partition, but then it doesnt boot completely and just freezes up. How do I configure it to work just like a regular distro?
Also, I downloaded Debian and installed it (I'm starting to collect distros for fun :D)when I get to the prompt after login and look at file names, the long ones are contracted with the tilde (~), just like in DOS, what gives? If anyone stayed awake to read this whole thing and would like to help please drop me a line, I would greatly appreciate it.
BTW, I'm not just a newbie, I'm a proto-newbie and this is my first time here.
