Webcam successes

I have been reading about all the webcam problems in advance of my plan to buy a USB(2?) Webcam with a Mic.

I have read endlessly about many probs and failures with various hardware...

I'd be very grateful of those out there who would let me know of their 'usb webcam with mic' successes of getting their webcams to work... Including not only simple single shot, but also video with sound. Please let me know the hardware, GNU/Linux distro, drivers, apps used etc...

I'd like to read of successes than failures so I can do the same. Thanks!

surely someone out there must have their webcam&mic working well with at least some applications?

I have the cheapest webcam i could find, and it works great with the spcaxxxx driver. Got it on ebay, one of those little blue cheapy types. It is based on the SunPlus chipset.
