No valid modes

hello all,
anyone can help me for this :
first i use Xconfigurator to configure my X, then i choose resolution 800x600 and 1024x876 , i'm using s3 trio3d/2x 8 megs, then i manually edit the configuration file and make 1024x876 default res. Then i issued startx, it said error:no valid mode, then i tried using 800x600 and everything is okay. I'm using monitor acer 33dl, and i've uncommented all modes.

the obvious question: can your hardware handle it? what size monitor u got, i think 14" and less have 800x600 as their max. try running xf86config and setting 1024x768 as default (instead of doing it by hand).

No valid modes?

Is that a typo in your post '1024x876', or are you trying to use it? Should be '1024x768' as Gaccm posted. That would be the reason for no vaid modes.
