I see many recommendations here for SuSE 7.1 so I'd like to give that 2.4 kernel a try. However, when at their ftp site in the ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/ directory, I can only find an ISO image for 7.1 titled "liveeval_en.iso" (about 650MB). I see another "7.1" directory, but it doesn't contain an ISO. I read the README_or_die file, and I've searched their web site for reference to what they mean by "Evaluation" in this context, but I was unable to find an explanation. If anyone can shed some light, I'd appreciate it.

I guess what I'm getting at is, I don't want to download and install some crippled version of SuSE if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance.

"Live-Evaluation" = runs from cdrom, will not install to hard drive.

You can do an ftp install of Suse 7.1. Someone posted just the other day about doing that. I went ahead and tried it today, being Suse is about the only mainstream linux distribution I haven't tried. I only needed two floppies, bootdisk and modules. I wouldn't suggest it unless you have broadband, unless you have some patients.

Rod

Thanks for the heads up. Glad I didn't spend all night downloading it.
