I got WINE working for the first time today... It's pretty darn cool... but I tried installing halflife, and got an error message saying "Installshield has detected that uninstallshield is running. Please close uninstallshield and retry". I got this with a couple other things too... Now obviously, I wasn't running uninstallshield, so does anybody have any idea what the problem might be?
Thanx

Wine is good, but it's not very sophisticated. I think you'd have to enter windows, install half life, and then go back to linux and wine the half-life executable in order to get it working at all. VMWare might be able to install the thing, but VMWare is turtle-*** slow (not that wine is that much of an improvement).

I may be wrong here as I've only tried Wine once (notepad) to see how it works.
Do you actually install Windows applications through Wine or don't they already have to be installed and then you just run the executable? ie. /mnt/windows/path/to/halflife.exe
You could probably verify this in the installed documentation or at www.winehq.com (http://www.winehq.com)

Generally, if you are using a Windows partion, you should install it in Windows. If you are installing it on a Windowless wine config, then it should work fine.
