Hey everyone,
Just a few quick questions...
I was told by a friend to purchase the mandrake linux software package, and now that I have it installed, I need a few pointers.
First off, I know I will have a few stupid newbie questions, and was wondering if anyone had any URL's or any sources that I could start with.
Can you reccomend anything to look at/ download to run, that can make my experience better.
I am looking forward to using linux, but I am searching for that little beacon that can guide me through.
Thanks in Advance,
Mykpoz

I suggest using IRC. Join an OPN server like irc.linux.com and join a few channels, maybe you would like #mandrake for example. The majority of channels on OPN are full of great people and great help, I would stay away from places like #grasshoppers though, the channel has more OP's then others and I don't think they are mature enough to handle the power they were given. Thats not the only channel like that I'm sure...but there isn't many. Join some places like #mandrake,#linuxsphere,#linuxhelp and so on...people will usually be more then happy to help you with any problems or information you need in real time. good luck! :)

The best place to start if you have a question is google. google can get you about 90% of the answers you need. also, linuxdoc.org is another good place. The NHF here are good. And if you still can't find what you're looking for, we're always here.
good luck

Also, man and info pages and HOWto files are installed on your hard drive by default.

Sorry usual, but it is against OPN rules to allow warez in the channels, we have no say in it. Even though we (AS IN EVERYONE IN THE CHANNEL) believe warez is wrong, that is not why you were asked to leave...we can't change OPN rules just for you.
So if you are looking for warez or to talk about warez, please don't come to #grasshoppers. If you are wanting help on linux or what not, please do join us ;)

www.linuxdoc.org (http://www.linuxdoc.org) is a great place to start.

Oops, sorry, Danger Fan. I just noticed you already mentioned linuxdoc.
I like the book "Running Linux" published by O'Reilly.

scanez,
Don't speak for the entire channel. People were messaging me saying they didn't think it was a big deal and certainly nothing to be kicked over. But anyway, there are channels far better on OPN. There is nothing wrong with me not liking #grasshoppers is there? Certainly nothing wrong with me expressing it, in my honest opinion this person would be better off in other channels. You don't have to like what I say and are free to disagree of course. I don't like you or strike after the way I was treated, but thats ok, I'm sure you don't like me either and that is ok as well. You don't have to worry about the evil usual invading your happy channel, I wont be coming back to it. So everyones happy in the end I guess. But back to the guy needing direction, try some of the channels I mentioned on irc.linux.com and I think people would be more then happy to help you, guide you and just shoot the **** when your bored. Hope you log on sometime and drop by, you can always message me on the nick usual and if I'm around I'll respond and help you myself. :)

Hey you not liking the channel is fine by me ;) But I don't appreciate you teling newbies not to visit the "immature" #grasshoppers channel, the main reason we are there is to help, not aid others in getting pirated windows CDs (btw, sweede said he wouldn't have helped you)
And it's cool for you not to like me but you are wrong about one thing, I don't not like you...I still love you and everyone else here ;)
