For editing simple text files, most of the time I use jed. I was wondering if there was something that is more like the old ms-dos edit program.

The closest one I've seen is one called aee - doesn't have as much functionality as some of the "standard" editors, but it's a hell of a lot easeir to use.

I like joe - its like the old wordstart. Has halfscreen help too if you want it (ctrl-k-h)

vi? emacs? are you people serious?

take a look at aee or nano (a totally free clone of pico)

Or just suck it up and learn how to use a full featured editor ;)
