Possible to have different default res for each usr?

I can get a different def. res for root by just putting a different XF86Config in /root, but the same doesn't work for normal users. Is there any way to do this?

each user has their own .xinitrc file, which desides which window manager to use, so i bet you could change rez in that. (this is a guess)

So is there a command to change the resolution (one that can be exectuted - ie not ctrl alt bkspc)?
