I am trying to partition my hard drive so I can install Mandrake Linux 7.2. I am using PartitionMagic 4.0 and when it enters MS-Dos and begins the partition process I get an error:
"Error 3 Executing Batch"
I have a Maxtor 30gig hdd

Please help!

Are you running Partition Magic off a floppy disc? If so, don't write protect the disc. Partiton magic uses the floppy to write it's batch commands to do it's thing on your hard drive. It can't write it on the HD if it's going to change things around, you know. ;)

Well I'm not using floppy, its installed on my C drive.

I've very new to this stuff so I don't know what exactly is going on but I learn quick :D

Any other ideas as to might be going wrong?

Hmmm... In that case, you're doing better than I am. I could never get Partition Magic to work off my HD. I had to create the "emergency" boot floppy and run it from there. Give that a shot if all else fails.

check the power quest web site

Are you by any chance using WinME? ME does not have native dos support and you will need to use the Partition Magic rescue disks. The installed PM cannot reboot into dos mode to execute the partition changes.

Boot from the PM rescue disks and do all your partitioning.

Try using a program like fips

goto ibiblio.org/peanut and they have and installation manual, browse through it and it tells u where to get fips
