I installed Suse 9.2 Pro from the mini-cd FTP install. Everything has worked great until now.

I had a Radeon 7500 PCI card in it because my old geforce died, and it was in the machine when the OS was installed.

I swapped it out for a Geforce MX 400 AGP today, and it came up fine on first boot with the NV driver.

So the first thing I did was use YOU to install the Nvidia driver just as I had done so many times before in Suse 9.0 and 9.1.

It downloaded and installed (seemingly) successfully. The config file says nvidia, dri is gone, glx is there, and the driver is installed. But when I look at it in Yast its using the NV driver with no 3d accelleration. Ive restarted xserver of course.

So I have xorg.conf AND xf86config (which I dont know why its there since suse uses xorg) and I edited the other to be enabled as well, still nothing. So I have two config files, both ready with the nvidia driver, but its still using NV.

I know I can compile it into the kernel fairly easily, and Ive done it before, but the reason I use Suse on this PC is because this one I need to do what I tell it to when I tell it to without having to set up stuff. Everything usually works automatically with Suse, and I dont want to recompile the module everytime I update the kernel.

(UPDATE) I changed the resolution using the Yast tool, and the "test" feature showed 1280x1024 (what I set it to), it was set to 1024x768 before. When I restarted X to make it take effect I came back in and it was still 1024x768. When I look at Yast, it thinks its set to 1280x1024. So apparently Yast is editing one file, and using another, but I cant figure out what file because Ive edited both and neither has gotten the job done.

I personally don't run SuSe, but two of the guys in my office do. And I know with 9.2 they had to download the nVidia drivers from there website instead of from YOU. They followed the SuSe Readme from nVidia until the part where it talks about issuing the command: sax2 -0=nvidia and just skipped that step. This successfully got them 3D acceleration as well (we play a little UT at lunch breaks :) ). HTH.
