I'm putting this here instead of games or software because it spans both. I installed Q3 for my RH7 system. My system detected the Voodoo3 card I have and I've had no problems running the regular GUI's. However Q3 ran slow ... I mean REEEAAAAALLL SLOOOOOw. It was a driver problem because while RH7 picked up my Voodoo3 card it didn't install OpenGL support. I decided that I needed to install such support and went on a knowledge hunt. I ended up a the DRI site and the documentation was kinda confusing even though I think I understand the concepts.

When I check my XFree86 config I see DRI and GTK loaded. I don't however have a DRI directory under /proc/dri so between the confusing (to me anyway) documentation and my lack of knowledge I still don't have the correct drivers to run Q3. Is there somewhere I can go for more info? Am I missing something (brain cells don't count) I overlooked? I haven't tried to install anything yet just trying to understand the proccess before I begin. Any help is welcome THX!!!

*thunks* ...
(half asleep after work..)

Which kernel are you running and did (do) you have the DRI modules for your video somewhere ...

(I seem to remember being given the option to build it into the 2.4.0. kernel....)

Ok, I'm not at home so this is the best I can do for the moment.
Kernal 2.2.x (this is sad of me not to know for sure) My X is 4.0.1. I haven't downloaded anything yet and I'm not exactly sure on what to get, what to install and in what order.

What is amazing is just how different Linux is from Windoze. I can tear Windoze apart piece by piece and sometimes spend half the night just telling others what to do, walking them step by step over the phone. For the first time in a long time I'm the newbie and have no clue as to what is going on. There have been a few times where I have almost went back to my old "stomping grounds" because of a complete lack of knowledge of how to do the most simplest of things. Like driver installs. Eventually I will figure this all out but in the meanwhile if you can point me in the right direction I would be thankful.
