I've been using linux mandrake for a while now, and i would like to move on to the hardest and most advanced distribution there is. Does anybody know what is the best distribution for advanced linux users is?

Slackware or Debian are usually considered the "hardest" of the Linux distros out there.

I used to think that Slackware was the worst dist. of linux because it was so small. Perhaps i should try FreeBSD. Should i try BSD? Can someone give me their opinion on FreeBSD?

You could build your own system from scratch. I have found it to be a great learning experience. Check out Linux From Scratch (http://www.linuxfromscratch.org)

Why do you want to use the hardest Linux distrobution?

Why not just install something you are comfortable with and then learn how to use as much as you can. Have you setup file sharing under linux? a web server? a mail server? etc. etc.

I did the same thing. I got bored with everything, so got Debian. No problems when I had a cable modem, I still use it but when I lost my cable modem I turned to LFS for a while. It took me ages to do, and too many things were borked, so I have going back to Debian. The only reason a cable modem was great was because of apt.
