I just finished the two .raw files off of Progeny's site, burned #1 in Nero (win2k), it said burn successful, tried to open and got the error saying Cannont read disc directory structure missing or data corrupted. Any ideas? I really wanted to start to use a Debian based distro and it took quite a while to d/l on a 56k so any suggestions would be great. (if it helps I have a HP 8200 usb cd burner)

Try using another program. I would definately reccomend Fireburner. When you look at the CD in Doze, what appears to be on the disk?

I used nero for mine. Start up nero, if the wizard comes up hit cancel. Select File, Burn Image, or something like that. Then go to the folder its in (make sure you have show all files selected down below.) Click okay, click okay again. Worded fine for me.

I can't even open it
"D:\ isn't accessible. The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable" When I look at its properties in windoze it's like a disk isn't there, it show 0 bytes etc. Yeah I tried Nero a couple of times as you suggested, but still to no avail. Also used fireburner it acted like it was burning it but in fact didn't anything so I'll try again.

What did you use to download the files? I've found that when I download .iso images using Netscape, I have to download from an FTP mirror, not HTTP, and I have to hold down the shift key when clicking on the file link (that's the same as selecting 'save target as' in IE). If I download the image from an HTTP mirror, the burned cd is unreadable.
I'm also using Nero.

Okay, I don't know for sure if this will help, but I've noticed a few times when I try to view a Linux CD in winbloze exploiter, for some reason it does the same thing to me. Could it possibly have something to do with the disk being in linux ext2 format or something like that? The only reason I mention it, is because my linux partitions aren't visible to winbloze either. Maybe try viewing the disk (Or running...) from a linux boot disk or something.

The disk contents should be visible to windows, because the disk was burned using the ISO9660 format, which windows recognizes.

To download it I used Download Accelerator Plus in windoze, so I could resume it.
heheheh, you sir are in luck. I had the same problem and wasted about 5 cd's. haha. Go here to find out how to burn them: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=017393
Step by step:
Step by step burning an ISO with CDRWin (4.0A Beta)
1) Run Cdrwin.exe (in Administrator if NT)
2) Click the "File Backup and Tools" (its the button with the wrench and screw driver on it)
3) under "Backup/Tool Operation" select "Record an ISO9660 image file"
4) for "Image Filename" click the [...] button and find your ISO file.
5) Click start!
(note, i had Finalize/Close session and Write Postgap checked)
Extra settings: Disk type: CDROM, Track Mode: MODE1, Speed: MAX
hope this helps.

Hrm I had the same problems with Debian ISOs. I'm downloading Progeny ISOs right now, so I don't know what's gonna happen. With Debian I could boot up with the CD, but the install couldn't read anything else on the CD. So... I had to FTP the files (not ISOs) to my HDD, use CD to start up installation, and then install from HDD. I'm afraid I might have to do that with Progeny.

Still a no go. Did everything you said to do mf4 but the disc still can't be read. Is it possible the file is corrupt because Download accelerator plus d/l the file in 4 serperate components then puts them together?

If you have not already done so, try....
the Progeny files end in raw, rename the raw file to iso.
It should look something like this after change: newton-i386-1.iso

You could try to check the ' md5sums ' of the files that you d/l. Go to the site you d/l from and look for the ' md5sums ' folder and click on it. Inside you will find a list of numbers for the files that you d/l. Also, go to here (http://www.linuxiso.org/md5sum.html) for more information on how to run ' md5sums '.

I wonder if defragging the partition the iso is on before burning it would help keep it from getting corrupted...
huh...my ISP is being an ***... they keep d/c'ing me every 15 minutes...I guess they don't like me using it to download things... :(
