Slackware Current ChangeLog Notice.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
New Entry: Wed Feb 2 18:22:01 PST 2005
New Entry:
New Entry: Released Slackware 10.1 stable.
New Entry:
New Entry: Thanks to everyone who helped out with this release, and
especially to the
New Entry: folks at GUS-BR and SlackSec who helped (and continue to
help) with handling
New Entry: security issues for the last few months, to Andreas
Liebschner for keeping
New Entry: the website updated and running smoothly, to Theresa Elam
for all her hard
New Entry: work running store.slackware.com, to the folks on
alt.os.linux.slackware for
New Entry: pointing out bugs and offering suggestions, to the people
on ##slackware
New Entry: that I met on IRC (and some again in later emails), to
Justin, Kyle, and Dean
New Entry: from the Linux User Group of Rochester, MN who I got to
hang out with while
New Entry: "vacationing" at the Mayo Clinic, to everyone who signed
my online Christmas
New Entry: card (one of the nicest things I ever got), and to all
the kind and patient
New Entry: members of the Slackware community. I hope all of you
will enjoy this new
New Entry: Slackware release.
New Entry:
New Entry: Have fun! :-)
New Entry:
New Entry: Your Slackware Maintainer,
New Entry:
New Entry: Pat
New Entry:
New Entry: PS I'm looking forward to working with all of you towards
the next one, too.
New Entry: PPS Sorry if that was too much like an Academy Award
speech. I could almost
New Entry: hear that music shoving me off the stage. ;-)
New Entry: +--------------------------+
New Entry: Wed Feb 2 17:46:02 PST 2005
New Entry: l/esound-0.2.35-i486-1.tgz: Upgraded to esound-0.2.35.
New Entry: l/gtk+2-2.6.1-i486-2.tgz: Added a patch from CVS that can
cause Pan and
New Entry: other GTK+ apps to hang under certain circumstances.
New Entry: Thanks to Charlie Law for pointing it out.
New Entry: l/imlib-1.9.15-i486-1.tgz: Upgraded to imlib-1.9.15. This
fixes an image
New Entry: decoder overflow in the BMP handling routines which could
possibly be
New Entry: exploited if a specially crafted BMP image is loaded.
This seems like an
New Entry: unlikely situation, but better safe than sorry...
New Entry: (* Security fix *)
New Entry: extra/j2sdk-1.5.0_01/j2sdk-1_5_0_01-i586-1.tgz: There
turned out to be just
New Entry: barely enough room in /extra on ISO 3 to squeeze the Java
SDK in. It's not
New Entry: likely to fit the next time around, though, but now
you're getting many
New Entry: months of advance notice instead of having the rug pulled
out from under
New Entry: you at the last minute. In any event, I'll continue to
include in /extra
New Entry: the script that easily allows packaging this as a tgz.
New Entry: testing/packages/lvm2/device-mapper-1.01.00-i486-1.tgz:
New Entry: Upgraded to device-mapper-1.01.00.
New Entry: testing/packages/lvm2/lvm2-2.01.03-i486-1.tgz:
New Entry: Upgraded to lvm2-2.01.03.
New Entry: +--------------------------+

Well I'm hitting the store for my copy. I may not be the longest slacker around, but I know what I like in my distro. So I'm gonna do what I feel is right and support the project that has helped me accomplish so much.

Me too! I'm sorry to say that, even though I've been using Slackware for the past several months (nearly a year now - how time flies when you're having fun) that I have never supported it monetarily. That is changing with this release. I've ordered a subscription so that I'll always get the latest release sent to me and save $10 to boot.

Also ordered me one of those nifty "When you're ready to get serious" Slackware T's while I was at it ;).

Looks like I was out done by MMYoung. Then again I did shell out some serious cash for an engagement ring. A slightly higher priorty.

So I guess that there will be 2 slackers in my house soon. She is learning linux from me and loving it. She actually thinks it fun to use the command line.

Maybe I'll susbscribe after the next release.

Ok did that get off topic or what. Well not really since once it gets here I'll also be installing it on her pc that is sitting at my feet.

Ok did that get off topic or what. Not really.....as long as Slackware makes it in there somewhere.:p

Wasn't trying to outdo nobody, I just like T's. Also in a crowd I'm kind of a "conversation hawg", to a fault sometimes as my wife of nearly 29 years tells me all the time, "You just don't know when to shut up, do you?" I digress.

I wear the T to college (oh yeah, forgot to mention I'm a full-time 47 year old college student), folks ask questions about it and I get to do two of my favorite things:

1. Converse
2. Evangelize Slackware, well Linux mostly, but I try to steer those that seem real interested to Slackware.

got to love the slack pack. i like the current release via swaret better than the stable cd release, because it is a little more like gentoo that way. But instead I just run gentoo. I like it.

After getting a slack 8.1 disk with a magazine I've bought Slack 9 & 10 from the store. If and when 11 or a 64-bit version comes out I'll buy that one too.

Speaking of 64 bit slackware. I don't recall any mention on the site of a 64 bit version.

Anyone know if Pat is planning on doing a 64 bit port? I'd really hate to give up my favorite distro when I build a 64 bit system next year.

still waiting on my slackware 10.1 to get here from the store.

i dont think so,but there a post on here somewhere about some people working on one..

i was going to order slack 10.1, but after having to get my new monitor my wife had put an cap on my technology budget. Ill wait till she forgets about it then order it. I decided not to download it , so I would have to remember to pay for it.

or I could tell her I have to have it for school

Slamd64 (http://www.webservertalk.com/message894391.html)
Slackware for AMD 64. Read the post before you download and give it a try. Needless to say in very early testing and is NOT OFFICIAL.

BTW, still waiting for my 10.1 myself

Well at least some one has started to work on it. I'm hoping they will reach a stable release or I will just have to look at doing a gentoo install. I'm sure there are other 64 bit distros out there. I'll just need to do a search and see what is available.

MMYoung I emailed the Slackware store about my order. hopefully will have an answer soon. It shouldn't take 10 days to get from CA to NC. I've gotten larger items from CA to Korea in less time.

I was just re-reading this thread and I got to the post that mentions Slamd64. I'm shocked I didn't get it the first time I read name. Slamd64 is a born brandname and marketing campaign godsend. Think about the taglines.

CD ripping SLAMD!
Virus portection SLAMD!
AD-Ware SLAMD!
Windows SLAMD!

The brand character could be a body builder penguin wearing a basketball type jersey with "Slack" or "Slamd" and the number 64. It's a freaking advertising winner.

Hey there isn't any rule that a linux distrobution can't have a catchy name.
