I have used linux for a little while in fedora core 1 then not at all for several months. I finally had it with windows and now I just installed core 3. I wanted mplayer and other things that don't come with core 3. And I installed apt with synaptic and received many warnings about packages that were installed twice. This made me nervous because I am not a guru just a novice user. I finally figured out that I could install yumex from fedoranews.org and added fedoraus and livna to my repositories so I can get packages and software that I want. I would like to uninstall apt and its dependencies so that I do not have problems down the road when I do upgrades. I do not know how to remove those packages or even what packages to remove. One thing to note, I installed mplayer and it did not work so installed xine. Both were done with synaptic. Will this be a problem if i uninstall apt and its dependencies.

So far, I love linux and I am becoming a real fan. Has anyone used Linspire? I have heard some good things about that distro. Just Linux is a great site and it has helped encourage me to continue to use Linux even though at this point my learning curve has not been good enough to work out my own problems with the os. Thanks for your help in advance!!!

If you have forced packages to be installed twice, I wouldn't suggest uninstalling them. You will likely do more harm than good to your system.

I have tried Linspire out recently and I highly recommend it. For new users, it is well worth the money.
