I bought a wireless card on sale. Ouch. I know. Stop yelling. Anyways, So I bought a D-Link Air Plus ... the hated DWL-G630. So.....it wasn't automatically detected by Mandrake 10.1 .... So I suppose the way to go is NDISWRAPPER. If I could get a step by step on getting this beast to work......thatd be wonderful :-)
Thanks Guys!

Here's my experience with that card under Mandrake 10.0. Everything was similar when I upgraded to 10.1. I think I pretty much followed the steps listed, except that I had some trouble because somehow PCMCIA had gotten disabled in my custom kernel. Shouldn't be a problem if you use the stock kernel. It's not ideal, but it really isn't too bad getting it to work. 10.1 is even better because of the wireless setup tool in the MCC.

I checked the D-Link website and you can download them from there. I'd suggest that because apparently there are different revisions of this card and the drivers aren't interchangeable. The file is just a zip, so you should be able to get the .inf from there.

I looked at the D-Link website yesterday....and all I found were executables.....but Ill look Again :-)

Try here: http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=317&sec=0#drivers
I guess maybe the zip files just contain executables, but hopefully they don't.

I might be a little late coming to this party, but I found the thread because I'm installing the same driver.
A couple of things I found so far:
1) the drivers are different because thery switched chipsets.
2) Download the XP driver appropriate to your HW revision (It's on the sticker on the back)
3) Unzip the file and the driver in located in the /Setup/Manual/WinXP directory
Now to see if I can get it to work...

Why not try madwifi? It works with all Atheros chipsets, which your Winmodem-of-wireless () D-Link card most likely is.

Good call! The install was really simple and now iwconfig reports the actual link quality and bitrate like it should. The funny thing is that I didn't even realize that this card was Atheros based even though I've been staring at the lspci output for the past week or so. I had heard about the Atheros drivers, I just never made the connection:)
Time to go edit my how-to post with a link to madwifi...

Mine reports itself as having a Marvell chipset, and ndiswrapper -l says it finds the driver and the hardware, but then can't bring it up, Maybe mine's actually Atheros, too...
For linux and wifi, check out the boards at www.wi-foo.com. These guys know their sh1t and are happy to help. Okay, they're selling a book, but a)the book is great, and b)they are totally helpful and are active on the messageboards. Don't even think about buying a card before checking them out :-)

Thanks for the tip. I actually ended up getting the card working with Driverloader from Linuxant. The process was very painless and well-worth $20.00 for the software license. See the details here (http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=138665).
