I was just wondering if anyone here knows if it is possible to connect a Sun monitor to a PC? I ask because the previous occupant of the house that I am living in left one (along with a dead Sun machine) and seeing as it is about 18", considerably bigger than my laptops 14" screen, I figured it would be great for watching movies and playing games on.

The only problem is the connector type. It is like nothing I have seen before - certainly not VGA - and so obviously it cannot physically connect to my laptop. I do not know how old it is, but the machine it came from was running Solaris 4, so I guess it is pretty old.

If it is possible to use it (e.g. by buying an adapter), would it be worth it considering its age? Is it likely to be able to support the resolution of my laptop (1024 x 768)? Would there be any other limitations?

Cheers!
Martin

What you have is probably a Sun 13w3 connector on that monitor. You'll need an adapter to use it with a regular vga card. See if the diagram on this page matches the connector on your monitor - 13w3 to VGA (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000067V45/102-3919865-7484918?v=glance).

If it matches, that's what you need, although you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.

Such a connector exists and we use them by the boat load at work.
