The only reason i use windows is becasue i play on NHL 2002 season leauge. How hard is it to run wine...and install ea's NHL 2002.

Right now i dual boot with XP and Suse 7.2.

Should i make a little partition for 98 and install windoze 98 on it. What is the best way to do wine.....

Another questions...lets say i do get NHL 2002 and wine running...will i be able to connect to a server with the game and play.

Well thanks for replies...i have lots of q's on this wine think.

EA's NHL 2002 will not work because it depends on DirectX. In the end, your best bet for games is dual-booting or getting a 2nd machine.

For other games, you might check out http://appdb.codeweavers.com/ for information on what features work on what games. It's fairly comprehensive.

I"m looking into the same thing, I've found a 44 page HOWTO on it here http://www.la-sorciere.de/Wine-HOWTO.txt
This is from www.winehq.org (http://www.winehq.org) it would be the best place to start.

What version of DirectX does it neeed? If it's DirectX 7 then WineX I think supports DirectX 7.0. You could download the CVS of WineX from the TranGaming (http://www.transgaming.com) website or you could pay get the supported verison, you'll have rights to vote and talk to the developers. So if you game don't work you could vote and get it to work later on down the line. I am using it for Half-Life w/ CS and it works great. :D

I believe NHL 2002 wants DX 8.0

Well, NHL 2k1 requires DX8. Another thing...i want to go all Linux...i have a couple machines at my house...but on my cpu i want to run just Linux...just for the fact that i am trying to get rid of Windows...u know what i mean and it is hard when u play games...such as NHL 2k1. The reason i want it on machine is becasuse it is the best of the bunch.

Can u answer me this...WOuld it be possible to run vmware as my emulator.....below is my specs if that matters for the emulator which i figure it will. I want to be able to connect to a server and play the game with VMware. Is this at all possible.

if anyone has installed any Ea games or DX8 games...except for the usual Halflife..unreal..blahblah...tell me how and what is the best way....i would really appreciate it.

TB 1.4/266
Abit kg-7 raid MB
512 mb of DDR 2100
...and other stuff

thanks...

You can run VMWare with that computer, but in general you can't play too many games on VMWare. This is just due to VMWare's limited capabilities, no DirectX and no 3D-acceleration will pretty much kill most games.
