So which browser do you use in Linux. So far I tried Mozilla, Opera, Netscape 6.01 and Netscape 4.77. Mozilla and 6.01 are kinda buggy for me so that leaves 4.77 and Opera - both of them are relatively good. I especially like the fast loading of opera :).

*Sigh* But nothing beats IE 5.x on Windows.

The latest mozilla nightly (april 30th) is in my opinion, the best browser I have used for linux in a LONG time. If you didn't check out the nightlies when you were downloading mozilla, I would go there.

In my experience, the browser that comes with KDE is also pretty good (I can't spell the name, so I won't even try ;) )

I'm going to have to put in my vote for Opera. Second place, konqureor (if I spelled it right).

I've been using galeon as my main browser for about a month now, and I can't imagine going back to anything else... it starts fast, runs fast, and renders everything so nicely... plus it has a handy zoom control at the top, for pages with bad fonts. Lovely :)

Konqueror is the best I think, mozilla is nice... .

But how could you say that nothing beats IE 5.x???

My experience with this crap is, that it crashes every 30 minutes....

Since my dial-up can't even max out my 56K, I've learned to love Lynx and Links. After dealing with IE for years and having it crash every third time ON START UP, I've learned to appreciate browsers that weigh in at less then a meg, are superfast and never crash. :p

I have to agree that IE5.0 is a nice browser, but I do still like Konqueror, with or without the KDE window manager (you don't need to be running the KDE window manager to run Konqueror). I think it has the best compatiblity, and if you're not using KDE, it's the most stable. It's also the only browser that I've seen that has those cool little icons for websites that have their own icons.

konqueror is smooth, just started using it. i've been using mozilla in linux for the past month or so, it's about as crash prone as netscape, as far as i can tell, but support gtk themes, and looks nicer.

and i have to agree ie 5.5 on windows is the best. nothing in the linux world can touch it. just look at javascript and cascading style sheets on ie5x then look at the same webpages from any linux browser. no comparison.

Some war that would be! All participants run out on to the battlefield, and before they meet they spontaneously combust, break down, explode (but the explosion doesn't hurt anything else), just sit there and do nothing, or grow fatter and fatter and fatter until the entire battlefield crumbles. There's nothing wonderful in the linux browser world. If Opera had a few more features, it would be the one, but there's nothing there yet.

Why are linux browsers so slow? IE seems to load pages at least twice as fast. Is that just my imagination?

I have not had the problems with Netscape that many people seem to have. Of course it may be that I am not on line all that much- I tend to logon, get the information that I want and get off.

I use both Netscape and Lynx, and I have been using Lynx more and more, as websites seem to keep becoming more bloated and useless with stupid animations and things. I'm on a dial-up, and don't like wasting time waiting for worthless garbage to load.

I use Netscape in Windows at work. I will not use IE. Period.

Opera all the way. I use opera in windows too. Hate IE, crashes every two second. Opera is norwegian too you know :D

Now that I have heard the majority say Opera, could someone give me an address so I can continue installing software into my RH7.1. I love doing that you know. Except Setiathome

Mozilla's what I use. Why use Nutscrape 6 at all? I don't see the point. Its based on an old Mozilla build, takes up more RAM, has more AOL advertising crap, etc

Netscape 6. I still prefer IE 5.5 for Windows though. :(
